Not just the powerful remote brands, for example, Nike and Adidas win the kindness of Chinese individuals, which took 10. 5% and 7. % of terrain sportswear exchanges separately in 2011, the household brands, for example, Li Ning and Anta additionally involve enormous piece of the pie (China Daily, 2012). Li Ning, the Chinese local sportswear brand which bears the name of famous Chinese gymnastic competitor Li Ning, acts a main job in Chinese sportswear showcase. Just besides to Adidas, Li Ning has 7. 2% piece of the pie and continues growing (China Daily, 2012). Not happy with its massive local accomplishment, Li Ning makes progress toward progressively huge stage and changes its objective to universal market since 2011. Remarkably, from one viewpoint, the household showcasing systems of Li Ning, for example, opening and smoothing out various retail locations, are by one way or another very unique in relation to the global procedures like utilizing online business approach. Then again, the techniques locally and universally additionally share a few similitudes like appending significance to marking. The accentuation of this article is to look at and contrasts the residential and universal advertising systems of Li Ning. In spite of the fact that somewhat not many of these systems are indistinguishable, Li Ning has to a great extent followed differing approaches locally and universally. In the first place, there are a few similitudes between the market systems of Li Ning locally and universally, for example, putting more in marking to develop its drawn out seriousness. In particular, both household and universal methodologies find a way to support renowned competitors or sports group to publicize the high caliber and propelled usefulness of its items, which means to establish individuals hold an ideal connection of Li Ning. For example, in 2012 London Olympics, different abroad award competitors like Spainââ¬â¢s ball group were marked with Li Ning (Brandchannel, 2012). Likewise, Li Ning got a handle on Chinese top gold award gauges in diverse games like ping pong and badminton, which incorporates Lin Dan and Wu Mingxia who appreciate the high ubiquity among Chinese individuals (Brandchannel, 2012). Particularly, the competitors who are supported by Li Ning are motivated to announce Li Ning not just by wearing its items. For instance, following Lin Dan won the gold however the fantastic last game, the logo of Li Ning at the pullover of Lin was pulled to show a motion of thanks, which makes the impact of promoting splitting (Brandchannel, 2012). Besides, residential procedures are likewise like global systems in focusing on youthful ages. Locally, Li Ning supplanted old logo and motto to cause the brand more to adjoin to the age brought into the world after 1990s just as builds up new ââ¬Å"sixth-age storesâ⬠which pulling in youthful customers (China Daily, 2011). World broadly, Li Ning likewise centers around youngsters since they are fair-minded to Chinese brands, familiar with shopping on the web and for the most part invest so much energy riding the Internet, which advantageously relates to the online business methodology of Li Ning (Ad Age, 2011). In spite of the fact that the household and universal techniques share a few likenesses, they in any case utilize in a general sense various methodologies in various key zones, for example, utilizing various channels to sell items. At the end of the day, the methodologies locally direct to sell inventories for the most part in strong shops, though the universal procedures incline toward utilizing online business, occasion advertising and computerized media. In detail, various retail shops spread all over China are possessed by Li Ning. Likewise, stood up to the cooling Chinese economy as of late, so as to raise the proficiency of substance deals, the organization embraces quantifies that smoothing out the system of the retail locations and entering lower levels urban communities to speed wiping out premium brands by merger and acquisition(China Daily, 2012). At the point when it goes to around the world, to disregard retail channels, Li Ning set up its appropriative web based business destinations as the main path to its items and discharged a sensitive secret video vigorously on its Facebook page and twitter account (Voight, 2012). Additionally, microsites and occasions are depended to initiate online buzz (Voight, 2012). Likewise, the household and global procedures are different in the trademark and the pictures they are planned to shape. Locally, Li Ning made another trademark ââ¬Å"make the changeâ⬠to demonstrate that significance isn't undying, no one but changes can be ceaseless, which not just vexes the motto of Nike ââ¬Å"Live through your greatnessâ⬠, yet in addition redesigns the impression of Chinese individuals on Li Ning as an all the more top of the line brand (Brandchannel, 2012). Universally, the trademark ââ¬Å"straight out of new Chinaâ⬠shows that its items influence its rich Chinese culture and are differing from the modest, unpleasant made-in-China products as old observation considered (Voight, 2012). Besides, with respect to new showcasing sections should be extended, Li Ning center around Children piece of clothing locally while ladies advertise fragment globally. Helped out nearby kids piece of clothing firm Paclantic to plan increasingly appealing kids sports and relaxation apparel, the garments could be sold in the diversified stores and associated shops of Li Ning in China (Wang, 2012). All things considered, the market section of ladies who don't require intramuscular figures and want equivalent situations with men are joined significance to by the worldwide systems of Li Ning (Warc, 2011). In outline, this paper has made correlations and complexities between the showcasing methodologies of Li Ning locally and globally. The household procedures, similar to the global ones, have solid support mindfulness and furthermore expect to draw in more youthful ages. In spite of that the worldwide and residential procedures have somewhat executed comparable systems; basically approaches are embraced in significant zones, for example, utilizing various mottos, selling items by various channels and extending distinctive market sections. In spite of the fact that the internet business strategy cleverly keeps away from complex retail channels universally and the idea to accomplish long haul benefits locally appear to be sensible, Li Ning may ot accomplish such huge numbers of benefits as they expected, on the grounds that its dubious image situating may create the turmoil and confound of residential individuals and its global shoppers may detest Li Ning for its imitative logo and trademark which have some likeness to Nike and Adidas. It is recommended that Li Ning should hinder its development and contribute more to raise the quality and make a few advancements as opposed to having enormous inventories limited because of growing excessively quick. Ad ditionally, to have unequivocal brand situating is vital. Regardless, as Li Ning continues altering related to the changing circumstance and making new items, it is too soon to absolutely judge whether Li Ning will have a promising future. Making Small Talk Phatic Communication
Phatic communicationà is popularly known as small talk: the nonreferential use of language to share feelings or establish a mood of sociability rather than to communicate information or ideas. The ritualized formulas of phatic communication (such as Uh-huh and Have a nice day) are generally intended to attract the attention of the listener or prolong communication. Also known asà phatic speech, phatic communion, phatic language, social tokens, and chit-chat. The term phatic communion was coined by British anthropologist Bronislaw Malinowski in his essay The Problem of Meaning in Primitive Languages, which appeared in 1923 in The Meaning of Meaning by C.K. Ogden and I.A. Richards. EtymologyFrom the Greek, spoken Examples How are you?How ya doin?Have a nice day!Cold enough for you? This train is really crowded.Whats your sign?Whats your major?Do you come here often?Sincerely yoursHow about those Mets? Some weather were having. Observations Speech to promote human warmth: that is as good a definition as any of the phatic aspect of language. For good or ill, we are social creatures and cannot bear to be cut off too long from our fellows, even if we have nothing really to say to them. (Anthony Burgess, Language Made Plain. English Universities Press, 1964)Phatic communication refers also to trivial and obvious exchanges about the weather and time, made up of ready-made sentences or foreseeable statements. . . . Therefore this is a type of communication that establishes a contact without transmitting a precise content, where the container is more important then the content. (F. Casalegno and I.M. McWilliam, Communication Dynamics in Technological Mediated Learning Environments. International Journal of Instructional Technology and Distance Learning, November 2004)Phatic communication, or small talk, is an important social lubricant. In the words of Erving Goffman, The gestures which we sometimes call empty are perhaps in f act the fullest things of all. (Diana Boxer, Applying Sociolinguistics. John Benjamins, 2002)Phatic communicationà was identified by Roman Jakobson as one of the six functions of language. It is content-free: when someone passes you in the corridor and inquires How are you? it would be a breach of manners to take the question as having content and actually to tell them what a bad day youve had. (John Hartley, Communication, Cultural and Media Studies: The Key Concepts, 3rd ed. Routledge, 2002)à [The] strictly rhetorical, phatic purpose of keeping in touch for the sake of keeping in touch [is] best illustrated by the uh-huh that lets the listener on the other end of a telephone connection know that we are still there and with him. (W. Ross Winterowd, Rhetoric: A Synthesis. Holt, Rinehart and Winston, 1968)Nice weather were having is perfect, Leonard. Its a subject that lends itself to speculation about future weather, discussion of past weather. Something everyone knows about. It doesnt matter what you say, its just a matter of keeping the ball rolling till you both feel comfortable. Eventually if theyre at all interested youll get through to them. (Phil in the one-act play Potholes by Gus Kaikkonen, 1984)[P]hatic utterances constitute a mode of action just in their being voiced. In short, a phatic utterance communicates not ideas but attitude, the speakers presence, and the speakers intention of being sociable. (Brooks Landon, Building Great Sentences: How to Write the Kinds of Sentences You Love to Read. Plume, 2013)What the anthropologist Malinowski called phatic communion might seem close to pure persuasion. He referred to talk at random, purely for the satisfaction of talking together, the use of speech as such for the establishing of a social bond between speaker and spoken-to. Yet pure persuasion should be much more intensely purposive than that, though it would be a pure purpose, a kind of purpose which, as judged by the rhetoric of advantage, is no purpose at all, or which might often look like sheer frustration of purpose. (Kenneth Burke, A Rhetoric of Motives, 1950) Pronunciation: FAT-ik

The story is about an adolescent girl (Laetitia) who begins on a life changing journey, after successfully passing the common entrance exams that enables her to attend the government secondary school in La Puerta. He believed a son is more of an asset and importance instead of a daughter. That goes to show the gender prejudice within the book and also in the cultural beliefs in Trinidad. In the Caribbean we were face with issues of gender and gender inequality in the past. A woman had to know her place and boundaries in society and the home. In those days a woman was expected to be limited to what she must do and active part in decision making, in most cases limited to the day to day running of the house and taking care of the children. British Democratic State as of 1914 essays
British Democratic State as of 1914 essays How democratic a country was Britain as of 1914? During the late 19th and early 20th Century, several acts were passed by Parliament in an effort to make Britain more democratic. However, whether Britain was completely democratic by 1914 is an issue for debate. In order to decide how democratic Britain was we must first establish what a democracy is. The nine major factors which make a system democratic involve providing a secret ballot to ensure privacy, holding regular elections to make sure it is the government wanted by the people who are in power. A democratic system has universal suffrage and similarly anyone can stand for election, making sure everyone has their say in who represents them. Persons in charge should be elected representatives of the people and the government should be by majority. Everyone should have freedom of speech and protection in law as basic human rights. These are the factors that constitute a democracy, but how many of these were fulfilled in 1! In 1884 the Franchise Act was passed. This meant the voting population was up to six million. It does not bring universal suffrage but two thirds of all males in Britain were now eligible to vote. This was a vast improvement from the early 19th Century when only one in ten men had the vote. This statistic was improved to one in five after the 1832 Great Reform Act. The 1884 Act was therefore a major step towards democracy as it provided suffrage to many more people than in previous years. Prior to the 1872 Secret Ballot Act landlords and employers had a major influence over many people. In some cases, if you voted against them (i.e. not for their favored party) you might lose your home or job. This pressure forced many people into voting differently than they would have done without this pressure. The 1870 Government Committee of Enquiry found that bribery and treating were common and so the Secret Ballot Act was meant to resolve this proble ...

The polyphenols are credited with protecting the body from free radical damage. In particular, the polyphenols present in green tea is known as quercetin that is also present in citrus fruits. To this end, the quercetin polyphenols is known to relieve people from asthma and allergies. Green tea also contains other ingredients such as caffeine, theophylline, flavonols or tannin, copper, essential oils, nickel, vitamin C, carotene, vitamins B1, A, B12, P and K, iron, calcium, magnesium, saponins, strontium, zinc, theobromine, wax and fat. Supply Chain Essay Example | Topics and Well Written Essays - 1000 words
Supply Chain - Essay Example that determines the efficiency of the overall business to a great extent and its effectiveness reflects and ensures the effectiveness of other front end business processes. For example, when an efficient supply chain enables the timely and cost effective procurement of the services, the possibility of providing goods or services to the customers increases many folds. The travel agency business is no exception in this regards. This paper intends to explore the supply chain under ââ¬Ëbrick and mortar system ââ¬â¢and compare the changes that has been brought due to the interventions of technology on the supply chain. Before moving further few terms need to be explained. Brick and Mortar means manual way of working. Click and mortar means combination of manual and automated working; whereas, click only means totally automated working. The business of travel agency in older times, when the brick and mortar system was in operations, was mainly manual and the service they used to provide was to arrange for the flights, booking of the hotels and to arrange any other service required by the customers during the travelling. Let us explore the supply chain for the travel agency under brick and mortar system. Under manual system, the participants of the supply chain were, the travel agent, the hotel administration, the airline ticking staff and other salesman for relevant services, for example, if the customer is being provided with the car rentals, then the car rental vendor will also be the participant of the supply chain. The process of supply chain was very simple yet bearing a lot of demerits. The process was like, the travel agent used to have the agreements with different vendors and on receiving orders, they used to go to those vendors, book their service and get the tickets/ receipts etc. Though it was very simple supply chain, yet it bore many discrepancies, for example, suppose that a travel agent books the ticket for a particular destination for his journey but

The Impact of Technology on Marketing in Nigeria Essay Example for Free
The Impact of Technology on Marketing in Nigeria Essay With a few exceptions, available literature tends to uphold the view that technology has become a universally relevant concept in every business organization. Some argue that a consistent and positive relationship exists between Marketing and Technology. This paper therefore, proposes that with its effects on marketing, organizations and practitioner can create a symbiotic relationship between Marketing and Technology with the ultimate objective of sustaining or improving current marketing performances of these organizations. Our focus is to examine technology (ies) and it(s) effect on marketing activities and decisions. INTRODUCTION Drucker, (1980), observed that the business environment of the recent past has been characterized by turbulence. This has resulted on the reassessment of the growth prospects of various industries as well as dramatic upheavals in the relative positions of firms within these industries. The causes of these changes are numerous but it is by now apparent that a major cause of this upheaval is technology. Although technology has been ignored in most traditional considerations of economic or managerial behavior, it is no longer taken for granted. It has even risen to the forefront in debates on world and national economic policies and on the future of specific industries and markets. This paper attempts to examine the issues associated with technology in marketing and its impact not so much as in terms of the ââ¬Å"quantityâ⬠of work and time employed to do the work, but rather in terms of the ââ¬Å"qualityâ⬠of the activity in marketing and its contributions. Today, marketers use technology to improve the quality of products and services offering. These new and evolving technologies coupled with increase management sophistication have transformed marketing from the creative art of yesterday into a true business discipline of today. In addition, it has resulted in developments that have provided important information and opportunities that have helped to meet customer needs and helped organizations to serve their customers better. Examples are scientific knowledge, research, inventions and innovations that result in new or improved goods and services, advances in manufacturing technology, improvements in distribution, better pricing techniques, etc. Most recently, the internet, an extensive global network of computes have made the distance between marketers, suppliers, and customer even shorter than what it use to be. In essence, we will discuss technology and merging aspects as they affect marketing practices and decisions. DEFINITION OF TECHNOLOGY The Advance Learners Dictionary described technology as the application of practical or mechanical sciences to industry or commerce and the methods, theory and practices governing such applications. An attempt to adopt this opinion will focus attention on machines and equipments in business. Technology has become more abstract, and its scope more defined that earlier thought. Pareauct and McCarthy (2003) opined that technology is the application of science to convert an economyââ¬â¢s resources to output. This only assumes that technology in business is a conversion process that enables firms to exploit available resources in new ways. Again, we see it as the application of science in the production and services. This also excludes auxiliary services in business. The definition of Bateman and Sneel (1999), seems to be more appropriate to describe technology in marketing. They see technology as ââ¬Å"the methods, process, system and skills used to transform resources into products and services. This results in the commercialization of science by the systematic application of scientific knowledge to business products, process or servicesâ⬠. Jobber (2000) seems to confirm the above definition by outlining the following factors as important to technology in marketing. They are technology, methods, process systems and skills; a.Technology: As the method, process, system and skill that enable an organization to acquire, analyze and use the vast amount of data involved in managing its resources and customers. The technology needs to deliver the right information about the right customer at the right time so that the business can achieve its role in managing its resources and customers effectively, and efficiently. b.Method: For the technology to be effective there is a need for an understanding of the values, attitudes and behavior of various customers, prospects and stakeholders in the marketing process. This will help the organization to focus on such areas as the effective retention and acquisition of business customers for its long-term benefits. c.Process: Everything should be in a series of actions directed to provide a clear and consistent process for managing customer relations needed to be developed and reviewed in the light of changing customer needs and requirements in modern times. d.Systems: The technology should be able to provide some interacting elements that will form a collective entity. The implementation of the plans and processes that will deliver the value proposition to customer in every transaction must be synchronized and coordinated. e.Skills: The skills expected should involve special ability to perform in a given task. Key elements such as organizational structure should support effective customer management, role identification, training requirements for resources and employee satisfaction. The above factors are crucial to an organizationââ¬â¢s ability to adapt to evolving technologies that may affect marketing technologies. Nickels, et al (1999), observed that technology in business has often changed names and roles over time. It started as data processing, information system, information technology virtualization and now to knowledge technology. This must have influenced Heineke (2003) to highlight of four stages in technology development as system-centric, PC-centric, Network Centric and Information Centric. Whatever the stage, the fact remains that technology in business or marketing has not reduced the amount of work but rather significantly changed the type of work performed by people in organizations. It has not replaced human labor, but induced deep and enduring changes in marketing environment. As technology affects the realm of marketing, as used in everyday life, its impact increases. This impact consists in not only a shift to different type of activities in business but also an encompassing effect on marketing in terms of quality. This quality is achieved by offering more comfort to customers as well as increasing the smoothness, user friendliness and efficacy in the performance of marketing activities. Generally, as technology in marketing advances, it might be possible to foresee some more enduring trends in marketing activities. The focus would then be on future issues on how to improve the quality of products and services provided by marketing for years to come. MARKETING AND TECHNOLOGY As stated above, technology has passed through well-defined stages. The history of marketing also shows very specific phases of growth from distribution, merchandizing, salesmanship, branding, advertising, database marketing to one on one marketing (Menton 2003). There existed a symbiotic relationship between technology and marketing. For example, from the early days of transportation, coming of radio, television, to computers networks. The effect of this relationship has been the steady reduction of the distance between the firm and the consumer. All these stages were greatly influenced in part by better and faster ways of doing business. As a business activity, marketing is facing a new and more complex environment. Technology, which affects this environment, has become very dynamic and highly volatile. Marketing and technology have become two of the most important aspects of any modern business. They share the skills and resources that are needed to power a successful and profitable enterprise. TECHNOLOGIES AFFECTING MARKETING Technology has been acknowledged as one of the most dynamic factors affecting business of today. It has spawn a myriad of applications that have potentially and dramatically impacted existing markets and different participants in the marketing activities like final consumers, sellers, seller of complementary service, intermediaries, information providers and business competitors. There is an unending and rapid advance in technologies that have led to amazing growth in knowledge technology. There are emerging technologies that have shown their usefulness given impressive declines in cost. The emerging and enduring technology in marketing as outlined by Shugan (2008), are i.Search and Engines: The internet now provides a wide variety of services for finding websites sellers, service people, product information, archival information, messages, reviews, announcements and search engines. The search engines are integral parts of the internet as a distribution channel. They help to disseminate information about products, brands and services of many firms. They allow for selected information, narrow buyers choice, increased assortment and targeting of particular items and customers. Examples of these search engines are; www.google.com, ww.yahaoo.com; www.msn.com; www.ask.com, etc. ii.Biometrics and Smartcards: Biometric is the automated identification of a person made by comparisons of physical physiology or behavioral traits to digital template. This technology provides an effective tool for countering undesirable arbitrage and provides the ability to identify a buyer from those only observing a buy. It also allows consumers to buy in advance and consumer later. On the other hand, smart cards are credit cards that contain chips with information on individual consumer. The cards allow users to both identify themselves and communicate private information. This technology has facilitated the Automated Teller Machines (ATM) and credit cards that have redefine the concept of place in marketing. ii.Mobile or Wireless Access Devices: This technology involves mostly the use of mobile phones and other Personal Digital Assistants popularly called PDAs, to access information from the internet about products and services. Their advantage includes, ubiquity, reach ability, convenience, security and privacy and personalization. The technology includes Short Messages Services (SMS), Wireless Application Protocol (WAP), General Packet Radio Service (GPRS) and 3G ââ¬â a new generation of mobile service. iv.Interactive Digital Television: This offers similar facilities like the internet but provided with a simpler interface that can be operated from a remote control. It allows for distribution, information and participation interactive ness. This includes Asynchronous Transfer Mode, and Personal Communication services. v.M-Commerce and GPS Tracking: Mobile commerce (M-commerce) is the use of various information and communication technologies that allow the mobile exchange of information. It includes the use of a variety of devices such as mobile phones, wireless internet, and personal digital assistants. With the Global Positioning System (GPS), these devices can enable the users to determine their precise location on the earth surface. When it is linked to communication and computational components, they can transmit, locate and do location-based computation. They can be used to identify buyers and when it is inked to inventory system, could help to find the closest outlet for a particular product or service. vi.Enhanced Computational Speed: There is a remarkable increase in computing power. This has obviously spanned an enormous, number of opportunities for marketing. The increase in speed allows sellers of products and services to use sophisticated tools to analyze traditional database and continue to improve targeting strategies. These databases include information on automobiles, biomedical equipments, distribution devices, communication system, basic office equipments, etc. Business customers can now visit websites like visiting stores and even do their shopping on-line. THE IMPACT OF TECHNOLOGY ON MARKETING IN NIGERIA The market place which is the interest of marketers is not what is use to be. Technology has shaken the foundation of marketing in several distinct and profound ways. It has affected marketing and marketing functions in Nigeria the following ways. Technology has allowed for the personalization of direct marketing activities and effects. Postal telecommunication and electronic correspondence can now be addressed specifically to individual customers. This has put the consumers in control, by giving the power of choice to them. Consumers can now get marketing messages where they want them and how they want them and most importantly, if they want them at all. Again, technology has also changed the media landscape. It is the foundation for the introduction of a vast array of new media alternatives. This has increased the reach and targeting power of marketers through the evolution and development of the internet, pod casting, blogging, I-pod and mobile technology. This has made it possible for a sponsor of an advertising message to select millions of messages and narrow cast any of them to millions of different individuals. It has changed how companies communicate with their customers and made marketing more scientific in the country. Furthermore, technology has completely transformed the measurement platform. That which was once considered to be beyond the scope of quantification has bowed to the reality that everything can fact be measured no matter how challenging or complex. This has helped to capture customer trends and behaviors in databases. Marketing strategists to define new markets, segment markets and plan marketing actions then apply these databases. Technology has crested a paradigm shift in marketing, which is referred to as Customer Relationship Management (CRM). This marketing-led approach helps to combine relationship marketing, direct marketing and data based marketing to build and sustain long-term business with customers. This seeks to establish long-term committed, trusting and cooperative relationship with customers that is characterized by openness, genuine concern for the delivery of high quality goods and services, responsiveness to customers. It suggests fair dealings and the marketersââ¬â¢ willingness to sacrifice short-term advantage for long-term gain. Technology provides the very foundation for effective customer relationship management in Nigeria. In addition, technology has become sustenance in a very short period and it has dramatically changed how consumers live their lives and how marketers need to address their customers. The influence of technology has grown into a macro-cultural shift in all aspects of society. This has affected the behaviors of consumer in all segments, of every society. It has helped to build ââ¬Å"product or service communitiesâ⬠. An information gathering process that aims to access primary target groups and develop an enthusiastic community of customers for a firmââ¬â¢s products and services across the country. It has further widened the range of goods and services available to consumers and impact on companiesââ¬â¢ promotion strategies. Components such as internet, CD-ROMs, etc enables buyer and sellers to interact on-line. They provide facilities that can be used to identify sales leads, conduct web-based marketers to make tough choices about how to spend marketing money and have shortened the window of time necessary to prove marketing success to business management and other stakeholders in Nigeria. An emerging definition of convenience in the country includes anytime, anywhere, anyway delivery of easy to use products and services. Electronic delivery of products and services has helped to create networks of websites and customers who sell, resell and recommend products and services offerings to their friends and other customers through these facilities. This has led to affiliate marketing across Nigeria. Finally, break through in technology have enabled the marketing of service that were until recently considered impractical in the country. The digitization of data content has brought new capabilities to interactive services and facilitated the creation of completely new classes of data. This is allowing an unimaginable quantity of information to be pumped into households via Internet, interactive devices, etc. This has facilitated the development of rich interactive services by marketers and marketing practitioners in the country. CONCLUSION Technology affects marketing in two basic ways, i.e new product/services and new processes of doing things in marketing. This technology is changing both the internal and external landscape of marketing. These forces of change facilitated by new and emerging technologies suggests a new emphasis of marketing as a strategic way of doing business has changed. Given this imperative of change, those responsible for marketing decisions in Nigeria must learn new ways to respond to the new business concept of ââ¬Å"survival of the fastestâ⬠. Exploring Cultural Diversity in Mirror for Man :: Mirror for Man Essays
Exploring Cultural Diversity in Mirror for Man Why do men do the things they do? Professor Kluckhohn attempts to explore, define and explain the answer to this complex question in one brief passage. He reasons that we are all given the same basic biological "tools" at birth, so it should follow then, that we should all behave in similar ways. But, because of "culture", defined as "the total life way of a people", we do not react to similar situations in exactly the same way. Culture is the main reason we can not explain other people's actions "in terms of biological properties." Professor Kluckhohn proceeds to explain cultural differences and similarities through some experiences of his own. First he parallels an American woman's view of polygamy to a Koryak woman's. Then he shares an anecdote of an American man who was raised as a Chinese. Lastly, he tells a tale of a woman serving rattlesnake sandwiches to her guests. After each example he points out that it is a persons upbringing and way of life that dictates how he or she will act in or react to a given situation. I am in total agreement with Professor Kluckhohn's views. I found his passage to be very interesting reading because it put into words views and ideas I had formulated through dealing with people of other nationalities. It also pointed out that a body doesn't make a man, a mind does. How the mind is trained and nurtured will decide what the man is and how he thinks. I am what some would call a "people-person." I love being with new people and learning about what makes them "tick." I have been lucky enought to travel through Europe and the Orient so I have seen first hand whether East does meet West or not. But the place where I learned the most about people and the way they live would have to be right here at home - Southern California. Living here in an area with a rich ethinic mixture has opened my eyes to things like: the Filipino tendency to eat with a spoon and fork while Americans tend to use mainly the fork, the Oriental's tight family ties and the growing rate of American divorces, etc. The mixture of traditional Filipino parents and growing up in California has given me a chance to glimpse how some cultures go hand in hand while others clash violently.

The book ââ¬Å"A Man for All Seasons,â⬠by Robert Bolt is a play written to teach us a few important lessons about life. He wrote A Man for All Seasons in 1960, and the play was mounted on the London stage that same year and in New York in 1961. The themes that Bolt uses in writing this play are moral values, self, friendship, and corruption. Moral values are when a character respects his own opinion about something. Self and friendship are the relationships built between characters and how that affects the play. Overall, the most important theme of this play is corruption. The Ethical Decision Making Process - 2474 Words
Ethical Decision Making Process Ayva Rodriguez Felician College NURS 380 Elizabeth Stallings RN, MA, DMH January 22, 2015 Abstract Nurses often encountered various ethical dilemmas in the practice setting. Both virtue ethics and caring ethics support good ethical decision making for nurses (Park, 2012, p. 149) but these are inadequate to assist in solving an ethical dilemma (Park, 2012, p. 149). For that reason an ethical decision making tool is helpful for the nurses or clinicians to come up with an ethical decision (Kelly, 2012, p. 571) that allows them to gather information, identify any gap of understanding on the issue or the disagreements between the involved parties through a clear communication (Park, 2012, p. 140). Several authors presented an ethical decision making processes (Park, 2012, p. 141), here presented the two processes that can be applied in resolving an ethical dilemma. One example of ethical decision making process is the DECIDE model by Thompson, Melia Boyd (Allen, Chapman, Francis, Oââ¬â¢Connor, 2008, p. 5) and the Integrated ethical decision-making model which was derived from the combination of the different ethical decision-making models strengths (Park, 2012, p. 140). History of Adolf Hitler Essay Example For Students
History of Adolf Hitler Essay At half past six on the evening of April 20th, 1889 a child was born in the small town of Branau, Austria. The name of the child was Adolf Hitler. He was the son a Customs official Alois Hitler, and his third wife Klara. As a young boy Adolf attendated church regulary and sang in the local choir. One day he carved a symbol into the bench which resembled the Swastika he later used as the symbol of the Nazi party. He was a pretty good student. He received good marks in most of his classes. However in his last year of school he failed German and Mathematics, and only succeeded in Gym and Drawing. He drooped out of school at the age of 16, spending a total of 10 years in school. From childhood one it was his dream to become an artist or architect. He was not a bad artist, as his surviving paintings and drawings show but he never showed any originality or creative imagination. To fullfil his dream he had moved to Vienna the capital of Austria where the Academy of arts was located. He failed the first time he tried to get admission and in the next year, 1907 he tried again and was very sure of success. To his surprise he failed again. In fact the Dean of the academy was not very impressed with his performance, nd gave him a really hard time and said to him You will never be painter. The rejection really crushed him as he now reached a dead end. He could not apply to the school of architecture as he had no high-school diploma. During the next 35 years of his live the young man never forgot the rejection he received in the deans office that day. Many Historians like to speculate what would have happened IF. perhaps the small town boy would have had a bit more talent. r IF the Dean had been a little less critical, the world might have been spared the nightmare into which this boy was eventually to plunge it. . WORLD WAR I While living in Vienna Hitler he made his living by drawing small pictures of famous landmarks which he sold as post cards. But he was always poor. He was also a regular reader of a small paper which claimed that the Araban race was superior to all and was destined to rule the world. The paper blamed Communists and Jews for all their problems and hitler agreed to those views. Hitler agree with most of the points made in the publication. He continued to live a poor live in Vienna and in 1913 decided to move to Munich. Still living in Vienna and being Austrain by irth, Hitler showed more loyalty to the Geramny. He thought that the Aryan race was destined to rule the world. Many believe that he tried to escape the draft but it was never proven. His live in Munich was not much better then before and he continued to be poor. Then in 1914 World War I broke out and Hitler saw this as a great opportunity to show his loyalty to the fatherland by volunteering for the Imperial army. He did not want to fight in the Austrian Army. Hitler was a good soldier. Many of political opponents claimed that he was a coward but records clearly show that he was not. He received to awards of bravery but never achieved a high Rank. In 1918 Germany surrendered and Hitler was very upset about the loss. He believed that it was the Jews and the Communists who betrayed the fatherland and it was here that his disliking of the Jews most likely began. Germany after the war was in chaos. With no real Government to control the country, many groups tried to take control. One day a big communist group staged a big riot but another group of ex-soldiers including Hitler managed to hold them back. 3. THE NAZI PARTY Since there were not many chances for employment Hitler stayed in the army. Hitler was assigned the job of going go to various meetings of groups which sprang up like mushrooms and to report on them. One day September 12, 1919 a fateful day in history, Hitler was sent to investigate a small group which called itself the German Workers Party. Hitler was not to happy about his assignment. He thought it wouldnt be worth it to even go. Computers And Marketing EssayWhy did so many Germans follow Hitler? When he took power the economy was basically non existent. Many looked for answers and hope. Hitler was their answer. He promised to rebuild the Glorious Germany of the past. First he started to uild up the Wehrmacht. Germany was not allowed to have more than 100,000 men, but Hitler broke the treaty and gave orders to increase that number. Factories started putting out weapons and people now had jobs. To the Germans this was a very good sign. Mass rallies were held, where Hitler continued to use his powers of speech on the German people. 5. THE ROAD TO WAR At first the allies did nothing about the fact that Hitler broke the Treaty. He gave speeches in which he indicated that the German people needed living space. Later he Marched into the Reihnland, and area which Germany lost. Next He moved into Austria, his home country and annexed it without a shoot being fired into the Reich. Following Austria, he wanted control of the Sudetenland, a part of Czechoslovakia which was mainly German speaking. He also achieved that goal. The allies didnt want another war so they led Hitler do what he wanted to, but when he Attacked Poland on September 1st, 1939 the allies no longer stood by and watched. Britain and France declared war on Germany a few days after later, World War II began. 6. THE DARK SIDE After the Wehrmacht conquered and occupied a territory the SS quickly followed. They would round up Jews, Communists, Gypsies, Homosexuals and others which were viewed as Inferior according to Nazi racial theory and enemies of the German people and put on trains. They were all sent to Concentration camps, which were set up to implement the final solution. Camps such as Auschwitz, Treblinka, Bergen Belsen were all equipped with gas chambers to make the killing process quick and efectfull. In those camps 6 million Jews and many others were killed by the Nazis. Hitlers army seemed unstoppable but in the end, the allies managed to win many decisive battles. Eventually on Aril 30th, 1945 Hitler committed suicide n his bunker by shooting himself in the mouth. His body was burned, but no ones knows what happened to the Fuhrers ashes. On May 7th, 1945 Germany surrendered unconditionally. 7. THE MAN Hitler was one of the most, if not the most cruel man to ever walk the face of the earth. His believe of the superiorority of the Aryan race made him hate all others. He believed that the slaws to the east should be made work for the German people. He thought of blacks as being Sub-human. And Most of all he hated the Jews. So much that in early 1945, when equipment and manpower was badly needed on the front Hitler nsisited on man and equipment staying and continuing to tranport Jews to the camps. In his Testament he left his money to his family. And message to the Germany people Above all I charge the leaders of the nation and those under them to scrupulous observance of the laws of race and to merciless opposition to the universal poisoner of all peoples, international Jewry. The only people which would be spared where the Scandinavians to the north, since they were closely related to the German race. With Hitlers death the Nazi party quickly fated. But there is still a lot of tension in todays Germany.

White Privilledge
Migration and globalization have encouraged the growth of multi-racial communities. These factors have contributed positively towards cultural diversity. However, they have contributed to issues of racism and discrimination (Schaefer, 2011). This paper analyzes the issue of white privilege. This issue has been notorious for sparking conflicts between races in the in America. This paper focuses on an article, ââ¬Å"White Privilege: Unpacking the Invisible Knapsackâ⬠by Peggy McIntosh to analyze this issue.Advertising We will write a custom essay sample on White Privilledge specifically for you for only $16.05 $11/page Learn More Individuals use the term ââ¬Å"whiteâ⬠to refer to people of Caucasian descent. Further, they have coined the term ââ¬Å"white privilegeâ⬠to refer to the advantages, benefits, rights, and immunities granted to and enjoyed by white people, which are not available to other people in the community. McIntosh refers to white privilege as an invisible knapsack. According to her, white privilege is the same as a weightless knapsack of special provisions, maps, passports, codebooks, visas, clothes, tools, and blank checks (McIntosh, 1988). In her article, she explains that white people view the issue white privilege as a benefit that puts other races at a disadvantage and not as a benefit, which puts the white people at an advantage. She documents that white people are at times unconscious of their oppressive nature. McIntosh argues that white people have benefits that they do not utilize fully. For example, freedom to live in any neighborhood, being the majority, and many opportunities among others. I agree with Ms. McIntosh. This is because the idea she presents about the white privilege is true. White people grow up knowing that their natural privileges serve to disadvantage others. This means they have to ensure that their behavior, dress code, and speech among others are racially neutral. For the white people, it is always about caring not to hurt other races rather than enjoying the benefits of being white. However, whites should learn to look at the privileges they have as a benefit to them (Barlas, et al, 2012). Although being African-American or Latino has many disadvantages, it has several privileges. These races enjoy some benefits that are unavailable to the white people. These races are more tolerant, have numerous experiences, and boast of a rich history and culture. Skin color and history of oppression of African-Americans and Latinos act as a privilege for them. For instance, if there is a conflict between a white person and an African-American or Latino issues of racism come up. Obviously, such a situation favors the African-American or Latino as compared to the Caucasian.Advertising Looking for essay on social sciences? Let's see if we can help you! This is because the respective races share the same geographical environment. These groups behave differently in terms of the way they relate to their experiences and customs. However, these races relate to the customs in the same way. In addition, these two groups have encountered pleasant and unpleasant experiences due to their races. Supposing white people were not the predominant group in the U.S, the society would still have some privilege issues. For instance, they would have issues relating to gender, religion, and education among others. However, the ground for acquiring privileges would be more level. Issues surrounding privileges will always emerge in the American society. This means that some individuals will have advantages while others will have disadvantages. Individuals should enjoy their privileges but avoid putting others at a disadvantage. References Barlas, C., Kasl, E., MacLeod, A., P axton, D., Rossenwasser, Penny, and Sartor, LindaPenny. (2012).
